British ‘drug and gun-running gang leader’ arrested on Costa del Sol - Times Online: "British man said to head one of Europe’s biggest drug and gun-running gangs was arrested in Spain after a major international sting operation, it emerged yesterday.
Christopher Kinahan, 53, was arrested at his house on the Spanish coast with two of his sons on Monday. At least 17 others were arrested on the Costa del Sol by police working alongside the British Serious and Organised Crime Agency.
The operation, involving around 750 officers, led to the arrest of 32 people across Europe. Among those alleged to have been detained in Spain were Mr Kinahan’s sons Daniel and Christy, as well as a number of Irish nationals. Raids were also carried out on offices in Ireland, Belgium, Cyprus and Brazil.
It is believed that Mr Kinahan’s gang funnelled cocaine worth millions of pounds into Britain each year and supplied inner-city gangs with weapons. The gang also allegedly provided money-laundering services to “rival” gangs and placed millions of pounds of “dirty money” in offshore banks and international investments.
It is also thought to have links with the Russian mafia, South American cartels, and associates in the Netherlands, North Africa, Israel and Turkey."
