Canadian Admits to Drug Smuggling Charge in NJ

Canadian man captured at Newark Liberty International Airport last year has admitted smuggling more than 800 grams of cocaine into the United States from Costa Rica. Twenty-four-year-old Azariah Wilson faces up to 40 years in federal prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to a complaint charging him with knowingly and intentionally importing 500 grams or more of cocaine. He’ll be sentenced May 2. Prosecutors say Wilson ingested 56 pellets of cocaine — nearly 883 grams overall — before boarding a flight from Costa Rica to Newark in June. He had planned to fly from Newark to Ottawa, but never made that flight.
