Last member of drugs gang sentenced to seven years’ jail - Press & Journal: "James Boyle, 47, of Meldrum Road, Kirkcaldy, had previously admitted conspiring to supply cocaine.
He was part of the Scottish arm of a drug-dealing operation, which used eastern European men as “mules” to transport the drug from South America to mainland Europe before entering with it into the UK.
Seven others were given a total of 106 years in prison between them last month.
Boyle’s sentencing at Liverpool Crown Court had been postponed until yesterday as his lawyer was not able to attend the previous hearing in May.
A police investigation, Operation Greengage, was led by Lancashire Constabulary’s serious and organised crime unit and originally centred on Ivan Hue, of Robin Street, Preston.
After placing him under observation in 2006, the drugs officers soon discovered his cocaine-importing operation extended to Scotland.
The Scottish Crime and Drugs Enforcement Agency joined up with the English force in tracking the Scottish arm of the conspiracy, focusing on Edward McIntosh, 32, of Spitalfield Place, Arbroath, and Michael Hailwood, 38, formerly of Liverpool, who also lived for a time in the Angus town.
Boyle formed part of the organised crime group, which imported approximately 77lb of high-purity cocaine with an estimated street value of £9.8million into Scotland between November 2006 and August 2008.
Aberdeen Airport was one of the main ports of entry for the drug mules, who were flown from Amsterdam then collected by gang members, including Boyle, and taken to houses or hotels in Arbroath, Dundee and Fife."
